These are some ideas and activities to download and use in your classroom to enhance the speaking and listening aspect of your teaching and learning. These activities are a small sample taken from a collection of over 100 that could be used in the classroom with the whole class, small groups or partners.

Paragraphs

The Paragraphs activity is a free to download resource to use in your classroom to enhance the speaking and listening aspect of your teaching and learning. Paragraphs requires children to piece together a collection of sentences from a text into a set of paragraphs. The text could befrom any area of the curriculum, e.g. a familiar story, a poem, a recipe.

Collective Role

The Collective Role activity is a free to download resource to use in your classroom to enhance the speaking and listening aspect of your teaching and learning. Collective Role supports children to create a shared understanding about a character by working as a group to voice the character’s thoughts or opinions. This activity can be used to explore key moments of an event, drama or narrative.

The Axis of Emotion activity is a free to download resource to use in your classroom to enhance the speaking and listening aspect of your teaching and learning. The Axis of Emotion activity helps children to monitor the emotions experienced throughout a story. These may reflect their own feelings or those of a character within the story.

All in a line

All in a Line is a free to download resource to use in your classroom to enhance the speaking and listening aspect of your teaching and learning. In All in a Line, children have to organise themselves in a particular order on a line without being able to talk to each other once the task has begun.
