The AAIA – The Association for Achievement and Improvement through Assessment
The AAIA is a voluntary, not-for-profit organisation that has the aim of promoting assessment practice that supports learning. The website includes the latest news and developments in assessment.
Sections that supply information but also provide guidance and support include:- Assessment for Learning, Assessment of Learning, Statutory Assessment, Examinations and Qualifications, Assessment Matters and Performance Data – including school self-evaluation and national data.
The statutory assessment section includes regular updates on the EYFS, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2.
The website also provides guidance and publications on areas like ‘Assessment for Learning: A guide to good practice for Teaching Assistants’, an Assessment Policy audit document or a guide for governors on Assessment without Levels. All of these documents can be accessed for free if you become an AAIA member.
You can join the AAIA via the website – with individual, school and organisational membership options available.
We firmly believe that the AAIA website is one of the best resources that a school can access to keep up to date with what is happening in the world of assessment matters.
THE NCETM - The National Centre for Excellence in the Teaching of Mathematics - The NCETM's website is a must for all teachers of mathematics across the age ranges. The website provides support for subject knowledge and pedagogy through a 'vast archive of classroom-based resources'.
This support includes CPD for teachers in all settings, video sequences (including supporting the teaching of mastery), progression documents for each strand of the primary curriculum, Assessment for Mastery support documents for Year 1 to 6 and research-based papers - including calculation guidance.
The NCETM aims to 'raise levels of achievement in maths, and to increase appreciation of the power and wonder of maths, across the school, sixth form college and further education systems'.
The NCETM will support teachers by developing strong subject knowledge, providing insights into how pupils learn maths and giving staff the skills and confidence to use this knowledge effectively in the classroom.
Institute of Education Reading Recovery - Every Child a Reader (ECaR) is a school wide early literacy strategy for raising attainment in Key Stage 1, through a layered approach to intervention, with Reading Recovery at the core. The overall aim of ECaR is that, by the end of Key Stage 1, struggling readers and writers are able to achieve in line with age-related expectations or better. Talking Partners is an ECaR recommended intervention with proven effectiveness for the children to whom it is provided and has been successfully used by many ECaR schools.
ESCAL - Sheffield’s City Wide Literacy Strategy - ensures that ‘Every Sheffield Child is Articulate and Literate by the age of 11’. ESCAL acts as an umbrella for a range of services, projects, initiatives and strategies already being delivered to parents and young children across the city. Through a partnership approach the strategy aims to further embed literacy across services to families and children and ensure there is a cohesive approach to meeting children’s needs.
Elklan was established by speech and language therapists Liz Elks and Henrietta McLachlan in response to a demand for training to be delivered by speech and language therapists to education staff to enable them to be more effective in their support of children with speech, language and communication need (SLCN).
